Fishing on a Mech

Post by awclawson » Sat Sep 11, 2010 7:06 pm

Well I tried a new kind of water effects. Kind of hard to work with but I think the effect came out OK. If you look close enough at the 2nd picture you can make out the rust stains on the botton of the creek down stream.

Ask for on a different board.

For those that are in Western PA (like myself) creek can be substituted with crik.

Started with a piece of Styrofoam and rough cut a creek bed with a utility knife.
Painted the creek bed with light brown paint.
Prepped ’Mech by cutting and painting and using powder rust.
Cut a place for the ’Mech and glued in place.
Painted over creek bed with Elmer’s glue and spread small pea gravel over that.
I sprinkled sand over that.
When that all dried I painted the rest of the surface with Elmer’s and did the flocking.
When all was dry I did the rust effect on the creek bed by starting at the ’Mech with a heavier layer then thinning as I worked away from the ’Mech.
Now the hard part.
The water effect is a pellet type that needs heated to melt.
I did this in layers blowing on it down stream as I poured it.
When the creek was filled and dry I took an exacto knife and flat screw driver heated up to red hot and did the fine smoothing.

That is freaking fantabulous!!! Why can't I find something like that to hide under when it's raining?
